Installing Bloom*

I heard about Bloom* from a friend, where can I get it?

You can download the Bloom* app by clicking here. You can also search for “Bloom” anytime you are browsing the app store; just make sure to install the app created by Mindbloom, Inc.

Is there an Android App available?

Currently, we do not have an available Android version of Bloom*. However, we’ve received several requests, and are actively looking into how we can translate the app to meet our standards in quality the fastest way we can.

What are the system requirements for Bloom*?

To get the most out of Bloom*, you will need:

Bloom* is asking for my location, why does it need this?

Mindbloom is constantly trying to think up ways to create more motivation and inspiration for our users. We have some great ideas for future updates that include the location where a bloom is created and ‘planted’, and alerts that inspire you in a specific location or time.

Don’t worry, we’ll never share your location or store it in our servers, its all on your iOS device and only your iOS device.

To manually set Bloom* to allow location services, please make sure to set Location Services to On in Settings>Location Services. To get the prompt again, please go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Location Warnings. The next time you launch Bloom*, you should be prompted to allow location services; tap OK to allow.

Getting Started

How do I set Bloom* to remind me?

To set Reminders, tap Blooms on the Bloom* home screen, tap edit, then tap the bloom you want to set a reminder for. Tap Remind Me, turn Reminder on, and set what days and when.

Reminders can be set for certain days of the week, a specific day, a specific day of each month, or even a specific day each year. You can set a bloom to remind you at a specific time, or you can set it to Random and get a nice surprise when you least expect it.

How do I make more blooms?

It’s easy to create and customize a bloom. Create a new bloom by tapping Create a Bloom on the Bloom* home screen, or tapping the + icon in the upper right corner of the Blooms list.

Next, you’ll be prompted to enter a bloom statement. This statement will show up in the bloom list as well as at the beginning of the bloom playback. The statement is your bloom title and will show up as your bloom reminder. Make it reflect what you want to be reminded to do at the specific time it fires. The statement will complete the sentence “I will…” Then, select the life area your bloom most closely relates to. This will help you sort which life areas you’re working on, as well as let us know where to put blooms if you decide to connect your Bloom* account to the Life Game (see how here).

Then, you’ll be given a couple options to add images (you need at least one to continue!). First you can add any images from your Camera Roll, Bloom Gallery, Life Game Gallery, or even the Community Gallery. If you see something inspiring in the environment around you, tap Take a Picture and even apply an Enhance, Black and White, or Washed filter if you want. You can tap and drag the images you’ve added into any order you want, or simply switch on shuffle to randomize their order. You can also tap any image you’ve added to add or edit the images caption.

Next you can choose a song to listen to while your images play back (not mandatory, but encouraged!). All iTunes downloaded songs, as well as most .mp3 and .m4a format files should be recognized and playable in the bloom slideshow.

I’ve created all the blooms I can think of, but I want more:

Check out the Bloom* shop full of free blooms for you to download and enjoy. You can use these blooms as they are, or edit and customize them anyway you like. Bloom* shop is categorized by life area, and will display a New! tag if the bloom has been recently added. Check back frequently for new blooms!

Can I create blooms from Life Game content?

Yes, once you connect your Bloom* App to your Life Game account (see how here). Any actions in your Life Game account can be converted into a bloom using images in your action’s Life Area. In addition, anytime you complete a bloom in the Bloom* app, it will also check it off in your Life Game account.

Connecting to the Life Game:

If you don’t have an account already, don’t worry. You can tap Play the Life Game on the bloom* home screen to check out a couple slides describing Life Game features, and when you’re ready, you can tap the green Play Now button in the upper right corner. Tap the Use My Facebook Account or Use My Email Address options to register.

If you have an existing account, click Accounts & Sharing on the bloom* home screen and click connect on the Mindbloom row. You can enter your email and password here.

Once your Life Game account is connected to bloom*, you can edit any bloom, tap the Related Actions section, and connect that bloom with a Life Game Action. The “I Bloom*d” button will change into “Did it” in the bloom player, and tapping this will complete the action for today in the Life Game.

I want to share my blooms with others:

Bloom has 3 sharing options: E-mail, Facebook, and Twitter.

Sharing will create a link that your friends can click to view the bloom you’ve created. Don’t worry, they don’t need to install bloom to view it. They can click the link on any supported browser or mobile device browser (See System Requirements here) to see it and leave comments or encouragement for you.

There are multiple ways to start sharing. First, make sure you are logged in to a Life Game account. To do this, tap on the Accounts & Sharing icon on the home screen of the Bloom* app. If you are connected to an account, the text next to Mindbloom should say “Disconnect”

Once that is done, tap the Blooms icon on the home screen, and then tap the Shared tab at the top. This is where you can access any blooms shared with you. Tap the green share button in the top right corner and then choose which bloom you’d like to share. Then, choose which method you’d like to share by, and if you choose Send to a Friend, select which ones you’d like to send to, and then tap the green Send button. Your bloom will upload (make sure to let it get all the way to 100%) and will give you a Success message if it completes sharing.

Alternatively, you can also share anytime you are watching a bloom by tapping the screen to bring up the interface, and the tapping the share button in the upper right corner.

Note: Due to licensing constraints, any blooms you share with songs will only play an iTunes preview of the song.

How do I add people to my Friends list?

To add people you know to your friends list, you can choose people from your Facebook Friends, your iOS device Contact List, your Mindbloom Life Game Friends, or by Email Address.

To add and manage to your list of friends, start by sharing a bloom. When asked which method you want to use, choose Send to a Friend, then tap the green plus icon in the upper right corner. This will give you the above options.

Note: Only contacts with an email address will appear; contacts that are only phone numbers will not appear in the list of options.

The Bloom* shop, connecting to my account, sharing, etc. doesn’t seem to work / load:

Make sure your Internet connection is on and that you have a good signal, Bloom* can’t reach our servers without a good Internet connection.

Connecting to my Mindbloom Life Game account never seems to work:

Make sure your browser is set to accept cookies. To do this, tap settings on your iOS device and tap your browser (Safari by default). Under privacy, make sure Cookies is set to “From visited” or “Always”

Blooms never seem to alert me when I set them to remind me:

Make sure bloom* is in the Notifications Center on your iOS device. To do this, tap Settings on your iOS device and tap Notifications. Bloom* should be listed under the “In Notification Center” area. If it is in the “Not in Notification Center” area, tap Bloom* and switch Notification Center to “On”

I never get a reminder I set to Random time:

Blooms won’t give you a random reminder during Quiet Hours. This is by default set to 8pm – 8am, but you can change this by going to the bloom* home screen and tapping Reminder Settings.

I’d like to get a reminder multiple times in a day, but I can only set it for one time a day:

Currently, you can only set a reminder for one time each day, but you can schedule it again for the same day. To do this, once you get your reminder, tap the alert to view the bloom. Once you are done viewing and completing the bloom task, tap the screen to bring up the interface, and tap the green I bloom*d or Did it! button on the bottom center of the screen. You will be asked whether you wish to be reminded again today.

You will be given an option to set the reminder to alert you again in 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, or 4 hours.

I don’t ever seem to have time to use Bloom* when a reminder alerts me:

Once you get a reminder, tap the alert to view the bloom. Tap the screen to bring up the interface. Next to the green I bloom*d or Did it! button on the bottom center of the screen is a snooze icon. Tap this to get reminded again in 1 minute, 5 minutes, 1 hour, or 2 hours. Use this feature to make sure you view your bloom when you think you’ll have time next.

Blooms seem to alert me a day ahead or behind schedule:

Make sure your device is in the correct timezone. Timezone is defaulted to “Set Automatically,” but if it isn’t for whatever reason, tap Settings, then General, then Date & Time to make sure the listed Time Zone is correct for where you currently are.

My full caption for images aren’t showing up when I play back my bloom:

There is a 100 character limit on captions. If any more is added, the caption begins to obscure the image and can take away from the overall experience. If you find yourself still wanting to add a long caption, try spreading it out over several images, using an ellipsis to mark an ongoing message.

I have purchased a song, but Bloom* doesn’t play the full song:

I have a bunch of images in my Life Game account, but I can’t figure out how to import them into Bloom*:

When creating or editing a bloom, tap the “Add Images” button and then tap My Life Game Gallery. To see public images uploaded by the community, tap Community Gallery.

I want to sync my Bloom* account on multiple iOS devices:

We don’t currently support this functionality, but we are looking into the possibilities soon.

I want to delete bloom*, how do I do that?

You can delete bloom* like any other iOS device app: hold down your finger on the bloom* app until it starts to shake, then tap the black x in the corner of the icon. You will be prompted to either delete or cancel.

If you would like to keep bloom* but not get reminders anymore, simply turn off reminders or remove bloom* from the notifications center until you wish to restart using bloom*.

I don’t want to pay for Bloom*, I thought it was free?

Bloom* is completely 100% free! Installing Bloom*, adding any of the blooms in the Bloom* Shop, and everything else is a service we provide free of charge.

GrowPro, a premium content package, is specific to the Life Game application. GrowPro is not required to play the Life Game.
